Byron D. Brooks "MoSoul" was born behind prison walls, his first breath stolen by a system that had already condemned him before he entered the world. Raised by his great-grandparents, the late Roscoe and JoEsther Corner, he learned that love and struggle are intertwined—that to survive in America as a Black child is to inherit a history of both suffering and defiance.

He has walked through the fire of homelessness and emerged not merely intact, but ignited. His journey led him from the margins to the heart of academia, where he has and currently holds roles at Ferris State University, the University of Michigan, and Yale. MoSoul has wielded education as both a refuge and a weapon, dismantling barriers and reimagining institutions to serve those they have long neglected. His work is not simply about inclusion—it is about equity & justice.

As the Chief Hood Officer at Hood Black & Educated Consulting Group, Byron does not merely consult; he provokes, disrupts, and rebuilds. He has advised institutions, nonprofits, and policymakers on how to not just speak of equity, but to embody it. His activism is not confined to boardrooms or classrooms—it spills into the streets, where he has led movements for justice, organized communities, and refused to be silent.

For his work in leading the National Day of Service Initiative for the Biden-Harris Administration, he received the Presidential Lifetime Achievement Award. Ferris State University, recognizing the power of his fight, created a social justice major in his honor—a rare admission that his struggle has left an indelible mark. A proud member of Phi Beta Sigma Fraternity, Inc., he continues to press forward, knowing that justice is never granted freely, but taken by those who refuse to accept anything less.
